Computerized Tomography (CT Scan)
Computerized tomography, more commonly known as a CT or CAT scan is a diagnostic test that combines x-rays and computer technology to produce highly detailed, cross sectional images of internal structures of the body. Contrast material, swallowed, injected or both may be added to the study to improve the images for the radiologist looking at the images. CT scans are by appointment M-F at the Main Laboratory. When you are scheduled for your appointment you will receive information on any special preparation that you need. At that time you will also receive instructions on picking up contrast material if indicated.
Bone density scanning, also called duel-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is a form of x-ray technology that measures the strength of your bones. It is used by the physician to determine your risk of developing osteoporosis. DEXA Scans are performed M-F at the Main Laboratory with no appointment needed.
Ultrasound imaging or sonography uses reflected sound waves to create real time images of soft tissues, including muscles, blood vessels and organs. Because sound waves are used, there is no radiation during this procedure. Ultrasounds are by appointment M-F at the Main Laboratory and Thursday Mornings in Palm Bay. When you are scheduled for your appointment you will be informed if any special preparation is needed.
X-ray or radiography is the oldest and most frequently used form of medical imaging. It helps diagnose fractures, look for infection and locate foreign objects in soft tissues. MAB offers x-ray services in three locations, Viera, the Main Laboratory and Palm Bay. All facilities are open M-F with no appointment needed.
