Commander would not let cancer define him

…Melbourne gastroenterologist Dr. Adwait Jathal said that almost all colon cancers start off as polyps or small growths on the colon, allowing for detection before cancer develops.

“It is the third leading cancer death in the U.S. and it’s the most preventable,” he said.

Jathal said tests should begin at age 50 if there is no family history of colon cancer; if there is, the test should start at 40 years old. The tests should be done every 10 years or more frequently if polyps are found…
